Course Overview
A Fellowship in Gastroenterology is an advanced, specialized medical training program designed for physicians who have completed their internal medicine residency. This fellowship provides in-depth knowledge and hands-on experience in diagnosing, treating, and managing a wide range of gastrointestinal disorders, liver diseases, and conditions affecting the digestive system. Fellows gain expertise in procedures like endoscopy, colonoscopy, and advanced imaging techniques, preparing them to become skilled gastroenterologists. The program typically lasts 2-3 years and includes both clinical practice and research opportunities.
What you’ll learn
- How to perform and interpret specialized tests such as endoscopy, colonoscopy, and esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD) for diagnosing gastrointestinal (GI) disorders.
- Comprehensive understanding of diseases affecting the GI tract, including irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis, and gastrointestinal cancers.
- Diagnosis and management of liver conditions such as hepatitis, cirrhosis, and liver failure.
- Hands-on training in procedures like polypectomy, biopsy, stent placement, and managing GI bleeding
- The role of nutrition in managing GI diseases and metabolic conditions related to the digestive system.
- Mastering the use of diagnostic imaging techniques like MRI, CT scans, and motility studies to assess GI function.
- Working alongside surgeons, radiologists, oncologists, and dietitians to provide comprehensive care.
